TAMPA – Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady made waves earlier this week when he revealed his new apparel line. The 40-year-old veteran NFL player has decided to offer NIL (Nothing In Life) deals for college athletes looking to make the leap to the professional level.

Brady’s clothing line, which offers stylish yet practical athletic wear, was launched in conjunction with Adidas and Puma. However, it is not the endorsement deal that is making news. Rather, it is Brady’s unique business plan that sets him apart from other stars touting their name on products. The quarterback outlined the details in a statement released on Monday: “We’ve created an innovative program where top college athletes can come to our facilities, attend workouts with me and my training staff, and sign a NIL deal where they don’t have to pay anything for apparel or shoes. They just have to promise not to go pro.”

Brady indicated that he would offer different deals depending on the player’s talent level. The best prospects will be able to get all of their gear free of charge. Brady has stated: “I am taking a loss on this venture, but I want these young men and women who work so hard in academics and sports – many in low-income households – to know that there is at least one person out there who wants them to succeed.” He added: “it’s easy for me to say, ‘I’ll give you all the shoes and clothes you need,’ but what if they don’t make it in sports? I want them to have their degree, no matter what their major is. That’s why all of my products are free for players who maintain a certain grade-point average and graduate within four years.”

Brady has already signed deals with several college powerhouses: University of Alabama (15), Auburn (5), LSU (2), Clemson (4) and Notre Dame (7).

Here is a breakdown of each individual scholar athlete NIL deal:

University of Alabama football player Jonathan Allen – Tommy John underwear, $180; UA capris pants, $75; two Tervis tumblers ($34 each); UA Performance Polo, $60

Auburn University football player Jarrett Stidham – Adidas Alphabounce shoes, $110; two pairs of Adidas socks ($12 each), one Adidas Climaheat hoodie ($85)

LSU Tigers football player Derrius Guice – PumaevoSpeed shoe, $120; three Puma T-shirts ($30 each), one Puma sweatpants ($50)

Clemson University football players Clelin Ferrell and Christian Wilkins – Adidas Crazy Explosive 2017 shoes, $130; six pairs of Adidas socks (six pairs for $12), two Adidas Ultimate365 Shorts ($55 each)

Notre Fighting Irish football player Quenton Nelson – Adidas Alphabounce Beyond shoes, $120; Adidas AlphaBOUNCE running shoes,$110; four pairs of Adidas socks ($12), one pair of Adidas Climaheat pants ($40); an Under Armour hoodie ($95)

It is unclear if Brady intends to add any additional universities to his client list. However, we can confirm that the quarterback has already negotiated individual deals with Nike for players attending Mississippi State and Tennessee.

When asked about the response to his new line, Brady stated: “I’m really happy with the way things have turned out. The athletes I’ve talked to are excited about the opportunity to get some free gear, and my team at TB12 is working hard to make sure that they are well taken care of.”

The quarterback went on to say that he is not doing this for the publicity: “I know that I’m not going to win any popularity contests with this move, but I sleep well at night knowing that I am helping young people achieve their dreams. That’s what is important to me.” It will be interesting to see how Brady’s new business venture plays out. However, for sure: the quarterback is always looking for new ways to help his team win.

The Wrap

With the help of our NIL contracts, student-athletes can focus on their sport while still receiving an education. NCAA schools with a strong athletic program can benefit from signing up for these agreements because they get access to talented players who are also eligible academically. There are no restrictions on where they can go or what division they can compete in. The only requirement is that both parties must sign an NIL before enrolling in classes. Creators’ Legal has NIL Endorsement Contracts ready to go as well as specialized Student-Athlete Management Contracts.
